The Opportunity

The Expert Lead is a position where all elements of the expert area Quality Assurance come together, the ‘what’ and the ‘how’, with an end-to-end responsibility. You work not only on delivery and on how we run Quality Assurance, but also on creating a vision for the expert area and how you and your team will contribute to DBNL’s vision ‘sustainable progress for all’ to manage both business value and how we deliver a differentiating customer experience. Therefore, we need someone who can contribute to a continuous, emerging, all-round vision that is covering all elements for the Quality Assurance, with the ultimate goal to be the strategic business partner that empowers ING to be compliant by desire and design.

The Team

The squad has total 11FTEs who work in Quality Assurance. You steer the squad by providing them with a strategic direction, by coaching them on the job, defining the product roadmap and by managing stakeholders around the product area. The people who work in the squads report hierarchically to you, which means it is your job to empower them to thrive and perform at their best. You set direction, you help them to develop their craftsmanship and you have continuous conversations about their career development.

As an Expert Lead Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) you report hierarchically to the Tribe Lead Compliance DBNL.

Roles and responsibilities

  • You are effectively steering and managing the expert area Quality Assurance within the Tribe with end-to-end accountability;
  • You are pushing and co-defining DBNL’s vision ‘sustainable progress for all’;
  • You contribute to the vision in your expert area, introduce and nurture innovation within it;
  • You deliver quality assurance on 2 different fronts i) independent reviews of the first line assuring the quality of the controls we have in place to control our compliance risks and ii) review of the compliance function in terms of adherence to global procedures and quality standards.
  • You manage the processes and activities such as Second Line Monitoring (SLM) Independent Testing activities (Key Control Testing), CQA Thematic Reviews, CQA Process Reviews and CQA Continuous Monitoring) and provide accurate and timely reporting to senior management;
  • Your team will monitor and assess the quality of the implementation of policies and processes aimed at mitigating Compliance risks, perform independent testing on 1st and 2nd line activities, in line with OneCompliance Monitoring Methodology and CQA guidelines established by the Group Compliance QA team, while maintaining local peculiarities, in compliance with the regulations applicable to the Bank.
  • You share best practices for continuous feedback loop to improve and execute the activities of the Compliance Management Risk Cycle;
  • You manage, coach employees and develop talents. You ensure the teams are adequately staffed in terms of both quality and quantity. Create the required environment and enables employees to do their jobs well, both now and in the future. Support employees in the specific expertise, creates a climate of learning and growing and evaluates results and existing knowledge; and
  • You establish and maintain strong (sustainable) relationships with key stakeholders, focused on a clear understanding of their challenges and opportunities. Navigate distractions and politics to deliver on objectives effectively.

How to succeed

  • You are a seasoned senior manager with 15+ years professional experience in Compliance, Risk and/or NFR within a banking environment;
  • You have experience in leading and managing teams of high value specialists and proven record in developing talents;
  • You have excellent collaboration skills and ability to work across functional lines;
  • You have an university degree or equivalent; and
  • You have an excellent level of English and Dutch (verbal/written).
  • You communicate effectively, in which you can adapt your style and the content of your communication to the needs of others you work with. You always pay attention to the input and opinions of others;
  • You develop talent, by helping people in your team to achieve their career goals by emphasizing the importance of learning, support people in developing new skills and offer opportunities to develop people’s careers;
  • Have a customer focus, where you build strong customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions;
